Young Women in Business – Leadership Camp is a program offered by the Iowa State University Ivy College of Business for young women interested in exploring how their skills and interests translate to opportunities in business. During this one-week camp participants will:

  • Explore opportunities in business through workshops taught by Ivy College of Business faculty
  • Connect with a current student mentor and learn firsthand about life as a business student
  • Experience the Iowa State University campus, classrooms, dorms and dining centers during this overnight program
  • Visit local business for a behind the scenes look at a variety of industries
  • Build your leadership and communication skills
  • Have a positive impact on the local community by working on a real-world project for a non-profit organization

YWIB – Leadership Camp is for young women entering grades 10-12 during the 2018-19 academic year. Strong applicants will be rising leaders in their schools and communities, and have GPAs over 3.5

Approximately 50 young women will be offered spots for the 2018 camp. Selection criteria includes academic performance, involvement, and interest in studying or exploring a business field.

Cost
YWIB – Leadership Camp is funded by the Iowa State University Ivy College of Business. All accommodations, meals, activities, program materials, and transportation during the week are covered by the college.

Young Women in Business – Leadership Camp FAQ

The Young Women in Business – Leadership Camp is a program offered by the Iowa State University Ivy College of Business for young women entering grades 10-12, interested in exploring how their skills and interests translate to opportunities in business. During this one-week camp participants will:

  • Explore opportunities in business through workshops taught by Ivy College of Business faculty
  • Connect with a current Ivy College of Business student mentor and learn firsthand about life as a business student
  • Build leadership and communication skills
  • Make a positive impact on the local community by working on a real-world project for a non-profit organization
  • Experience the Iowa State University campus and live in a residence hall during this overnight program

Camp activities will take place on the Iowa State University campus in Ames, Iowa. Participants will also engage with businesses in the surrounding areas.

Campers will stay in one of the campus residence halls and most meals will be in one of the campus dining centers. The dining centers are buffet style, with all you can eat and lots of choices. Some lunches will be catered from Ames, Iowa restaurants.

Throughout the week, campers will work with a team of others on a case study with a local non-profit organization. Each day will be a combination of group casework time, workshops with Iowa State faculty and business professionals, and group activities. At the close of camp, campers will present their case study to the non-profit organization.

A complete packing list will be provided to each camper before arrival on campus. Plan to wear business casual each day on campus (khaki pants, dress pants, appropriate length skirts, or dresses). Other items include pajamas, rain jacket/poncho, toiletries (bed linens will be provided), sunscreen, and a small bag or caddy to carry toiletry items to the shower. You may also opt to bring a book or travel size games for your downtime in the evenings.
