The Debbie and Jerry Ivy College of Business hosted the 8th annual Young Women in Business Conference at Iowa State University on October 23.
More than 150 females in grades 9 through 12, plus their parents, teachers, and high school counselors, came to the conference. The students attended break-out sessions where they learned about careers in business from 10 industry professionals and nine Ivy College of Business faculty members. Some of the topics included “Wall Street Survivor”, “Finding the Entrepreneur in You!”, “Business Majors: A Day in the Life”, and more. Students also heard from two Ivy College of Business alumni in keynote presentations. Sarah Lucke, corporate accountant at The Scoular Company discussed life after college and how to find success. Colette Johnson, owner and founder of That Iowa Girl, shared how each degree offered in business directly affects how she runs her distribution company.
“There has never been a better time for young women to choose business at Iowa State University,” said Raisbeck Endowed Dean David Spalding. “We are offering new programs, such as a major in entrepreneurship. This is a great time to be in business and the perfect time for young women in high school to check us out.”
The 2018 Young Women in Business Conference is scheduled for Tuesday, October 16, 2018.
