The Faster MBA Program Overview
Working professionals are busy. We understand that. We offer a Professional MBA program at our office in Capital Square in downtown Des Moines. It’s a full-time education on a part-time schedule, taught by the same quality faculty as our Full-Time MBA program on campus.
Take classes two nights per week and earn your degree in 2 1/2 years or less. The Fast Track option enables students to finish in only two calendar years by taking courses year-round. The Faster MBA means a faster promotion, a faster raise, a faster climb up the corporate ladder.
Core Curriculum & Elective Courses
The Faster MBA consists of ten core courses (30 credits) and six elective courses (18 credits). While the program can be started in the spring, summer, or fall, students progress through the core curriculum as a cohort starting in the fall semester.
- Each entering cohort of Professional MBA students takes two core courses per semester for five semesters.
- Each core course is delivered in a six-week block, meeting two evenings per week (5:50-9:10 pm).
- The established course sequencing is designed to build a solid foundation in the core areas of business.
Elective courses are available in Ames, Des Moines, and online.
Custom Program of Study
Students tailor their MBA studies by taking six elective courses. Electives are offered in Des Moines, Ames, and online. Students may choose a specialization area or pursue a general management study plan.
A Graduate Certificate in Business Analytics can be pursued concurrently with the Professional MBA. The Graduate Certificate consists of a minimum of four courses (12 credits) in business analytics, of which two courses (6 credits) may also apply toward MBA elective credits. Students are able to earn an Iowa State University MBA and a Graduate Certificate in Business Analytics by successfully completing 18 courses (54 credits).
Make Your Experience Count
Professional MBA applicants may be eligible for a waiver of the GMAT. If you have an undergraduate GPA of 3.20 or higher from an accredited U.S. institution and at least five years of progressive, professional work experience, you will not have to take the GMAT when you apply to the Professional MBA. You are also eligible for a GMAT waiver if you have a combination of graduate education and professional experience totaling at least five years.
Team Approach to Learning
In today’s business environment, teamwork is essential to success. The Iowa State Professional MBA builds the team concept into the core curriculum, giving students the opportunity to practice leading a group and capitalizing on members’ strengths. Diverse student teams are determined for each entering cohort and are maintained throughout the five semester core.
