Drones, automated driving, 3D printing and other topics will be part of the 25th Annual Voorhees Supply Chain Conference. The Future of Supply Chain is this year’s theme.
“We selected this theme because we want to showcase the high-tech future of this emerging field,” said Yoshinori Suzuki, associate chair of supply chain and information systems department and dean’s professor in supply chain management.
“When you think about it, supply chain management is a field that literally impacts every business,” Suzuki said.
“Every business has a product, needs supplies, and relies on some form of transportation at some point,” he said. “So this conference is really for everyone. You do not have to have a degree or background in supply chain management. The topics being covered in our conference apply to all forms of business.”
Those who attend the conference will learn about the future of supply chain from industry experts. Topics will include such emerging technologies as drones, 3D printing, autonomous truck driving, and vehicle routing.
The Voorhees Supply Chain Conference was established by alumni and friends of Iowa State University to honor the career of Professor Emeritus R. Dale Voorhees and to provide industry leaders a premier conference in supply chain management. Professor Voorhees passed away on May 24, 2009.
Professor Voorhees was an Iowa State University teacher and researcher for 20 years. As a teacher, Voorhees displayed an uncommon talent for integrating theory with practice. Industry practitioners were frequent visitors to his class, sharing their experiences, knowledge, and insights with supply chain students.
