We need your help!
The College of Business is getting ready to plan our 4th annual Young Women in Business conference aimed at educating high school females about the opportunities available in business. The conference will take place next October, but the planning starts now! We would really like to have a couple student volunteers join our planning committee to keep us on track with what is cool. If you are interested, please contact Kayla Christensen at kayla@iastate.edu.
Upper Level Business Courses
Only students who have declared their majors in Business can enroll in 300 level business courses, with the exception of MIS 330. In order to add any restricted sections of business classes, students should see Sarah Wilson in 1200 Gerdin beginning November 1st. Sarah will begin signing students into those sections on that date if seats are available. Business classes will remain open through the 1st week of spring classes, so please keep checking if you want to change sections.
Registration for Spring 2013 Continues
Juniors are finishing up their registration today and registration for sophomores begins tomorrow through November 7th. Freshmen begin on November 8th. Remember if you have a hold on your registration, please make sure you check with the appropriate office. If you have an advising hold remember to make an appointment with your adviser before your registration start date to ensure you can begin registration on time.
Chartered Bus Trips over Breaks
New Student Programs sponsors chartered bus trips to Chicago and Minneapolis areas over Thanksgiving, Semester, and Spring Breaks. Check out the above website for all the information, dates, and cost.
Volunteer Tax Assistance (VITA) program
VITA (ACCT 487 / 587) is a program where you first learn about personal income tax regulations, then assist taxpayers with their returns. It’s a valuable learning experience, as you get to work hands-on with different tax situations. This is how the class works:
First, the course is open to anyone who has had ACCT 285 or 501. However, you will find the training part of the course easier if you have had ACCT 485 (intro to tax) before or are taking it the same semester as you take the VITA course.
Second, everyone signs up for the same lecture—it is on Wednesday nights 6-8 p.m. this year. However, you do not actually have to attend the lecture. If you have a class conflict, you can view the lectures and complete the training materials online.
Third, after the first five weeks, you assist taxpayers during one of the designated lab times. These are: 3:30-5:00 p.m. Tuesday, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday. These are designated on the schedule of classes as ACCT 487 (or 587) Sections A, B, and C.
Finally, you can take the course again if you did it before—there is no limit to the number of times you can sign up for VITA.
Contact Dr. Bill Dilla wdilla@iastate.edu if you have questions.
