Marketing

Agarwal, Sanjeev (PhD, Ohio State University; Professor) teaches international marketing and international business, primarily at the graduate level. He has authored or co-authored over 35 research publications. His research appears in several of the top academic journals in his field, including Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of International Marketing, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management, and International Marketing Review.

Brocato, Deanne (PhD, University of Texas at Arlington; Assistant Professor) is interested primarily in services research. Specific areas include: emotional bonding to places, the role of other customers in the service environment, service and retail environmental design, the service decision process, service failures and excuse-making, and problems associated with wait times. Her work has appeared in the proceedings of various conferences, including the Academy of Marketing Science Annual Conference, American Marketing Association Winter Educators' Conference, Sport Marketing Association Annual Conference, and the Academy of Marketing Science Cultural Perspectives in Marketing Conference.

Terry L. Childers (PhD, University of Wisconsin at Madison; Dean’s Chair in Marketing) was previously Professor of Marketing at the University of Minnesota and the Gatton Endowed Chair in Electronic Marketing at the University of Kentucky. Professor Childers’ research has been published in a number of journals, including the Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Consumer Psychology, Journal of Retailing ,Public Opinion Quarterly and other business journals.  Professor Childers has research interests in Consumer Behavior with research topics related to the processing of visual, verbal, and numerical information, memory factors, haptic information processing, and the broader domain of consumer welfare in areas such as literacy and consumers with impairments.  His interests also include the assessment of behavioral constructs and the use of neurobiological techniques and perspectives.

Cross, Samantha (PhD, University of California at Irvine, Assistant Professor) is a consumer researcher with interests in the areas of family decision making, immigrant consumption behavior, innovation and social networks. Dr. Cross has presented her research in several forums, including the Association for Consumer Research (ACR) Conference, the Consumer Culture Theory (CCT) Conference, the Academy of Marketing Science (AMS) Conference and the Society for Consumer Psychology (SCP) Conference.

Kim, Stephen (PhD, University of Southern California; Associate Professor) is interested in issues dealing with inter-organizational design and management, including marketing channels and sourcing strategy. His research has been published in the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, International Journal of Research in Marketing, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Decision Sciences, and other journals.

Laczniak, Russell (PhD, University of Nebraska; Professor) is primarily interested in understanding consumers' processing of advertising and other marketplace information. He also studies processes used by parents to socialize their children to be effective consumers. His research has appeared in the Journal of Consumer Psychology, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Advertising, Journal of Current Issues and Research in Advertising, Journal of Public Policy and Marketing, Marketing Letters, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Consumer Affairs, and others.

Palan, Kay (PhD, Texas Tech University; Associate Professor, Associate Dean) focuses on decision-making in families, especially on the types of influence strategies children and parents use when making decisions together; a related focus area is consumer socialization, how children learn to be consumers, to make consumption decisions, etc. Her recent research focused on advertising effects on children's use of influence strategies and adolescent shopping competence. Another research focus has been how gender/gender identity affects consumption behavior, particularly in the gift-giving arena. Her research appears in publications such as the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Advertising, Psychology & Marketing, and Marketing Letters. Dr. Palan has also written case studies on strategic marketing management published in the Case Research Journal.

Sekar, Raju (PhD, Ohio State University; Assistant Professor) is primarily interested in issues dealing with commitment and loyalty in various domains. He also studies customer satisfaction, advertising effects, and memory effects. His research has been published in journals such as Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, Journal of Advertising, and Psychology and Marketing among others.

Ramaswami, Sridhar (PhD, University of Texas at Austin; Professor) His current research areas include adoption and acceptance of extension technologies, marketing's contribution to firm value, brand loyalty and CRM performance drivers. His research has appeared in several marketing and business journals such as Journal of Marketing, Journal of Consumer Psychology, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management, and other business journals. His work with Dr. Agarwal won the "JIBS Decade Award" honoring the most influential article from the 1992 volume of the Journal of International Business Studies.

Roy, Tirthankar (PhD, University of California at Los Angeles; Assistant Professor) works in the area of modeling consumer response to targeted promotions, loyalty reward programs and competitive markets with asymmetric customer addressability. His research has been published in journals such as Journal of Marketing, International Journal of Research in Marketing and Theory and Decision.

Smarandescu, Laura (PhD, University of South Carolina; Assistant Professor) works in the broad domains of consumer judgment and decision making and branding. Her primary line of work explores how consumers make inferences of brands when they are exposed to cross-category brand alliances and explores the boundary conditions when such alliances may help or hurt individual brands. Laura also investigates the interplay between affect and cognition and looks at how consumers integrate utilitarian and hedonic information in preference judgments.

Walker, Doug (PhD, University of Houston; Assistant Professor) Dr. Walker's primary research interest is customer relationship management (CRM), where he investigates how firms can use data to guide customer acquisition, development, and retention activities. Current research projects in pharmaceutical marketing include investigations focused on physician-level data availability, causality issues, trade-offs in HMO management, and physician learning. He is also studying how CRM can unveil goal incongruence among stakeholders in a firm and how the value of customer data can be influenced by pricing decisions.  Prior to entering academia, Dr. Walker worked as an investment advisor, trader, broker, and floor trader in the equity, options, and futures markets.

Wong, John (PhD, University of Alabama; Associate Professor) joined the faculty at Iowa State University in 1980 and has taught graduate courses in international business, international marketing, marketing management and new product policy and management. Dr. Wong's research has been published in the Journal of Consumer Research, Academy of Management Review, International Journal of Research in Marketing, Journal of Health Care Marketing, Journal of Professional Services Marketing, and Psychological Reports as well as various conference proceedings.

Management

Anderson, Marc (PhD, University of Minnesota; Assistant Professor) has research interests in the areas of personality, social networks, and their interaction on organizational behavior; managerial and organizational cognition and sense-making, metaphor and organizational theorizing, and leadership. His work has been published in a variety of journals including the Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Journal of Management Studies, Organization Studies, and Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes.

Blackburn, Virginia (PhD, University of Kentucky; Associate Professor) has published in such journals as the Journal of Management, the Journal of Managerial Issues, Financial Review, Corporate Governance and the International Journal of Management. Her current research is concentrated on explaining and finding ways to mitigate the emerging student debt crisis.

Chacko, Thomas (PhD, University of Iowa; Professor and Chair) is working currently on human resource practices and their impact on firm performance and in particular, on practices that create the high performance organization. He has published in journals such as Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Decision Sciences, Human Relations, International Journal of Management, Journal of Applied Psychology, and Journal of Labor Research.

DeMarie, Sam (PhD, Arizona State University; Associate Professor) has published in such journals as Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Executive, Journal of Labor Research, Organizational Dynamics, Journal of Computer Information Systems, and Information Systems Journal.

Herrmann, Pol (PhD, University of Kansas; Associate Professor) has published articles in journals such as Academy of Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management, and Journal of Management Studies. His research areas include Technology & Innovation Management, Strategic Leadership, Strategic Change, and International Strategies.

Johnson, Roy (PhD, Bowling Green University; Associate Professor) is interested in the area of “perceived over qualification." He has published articles in journals such as the Journal of Psychology, Journal of Social Psychology, National Journal of Sociology, and Journal of Applied Social Psychology.

McElroy, James (PhD, Oklahoma State University; University Professor) is primarily interested in the role of attitudes and other individual differences in behavior. He has published in more than 60 academic publications including the Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Vocational Behavior, Journal of Marketing, Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, MIS Quarterly, Journal of Organizational Behavior, etc.

Morrow, Paula (PhD, Iowa State University; Professor) is known internationally for her research in work commitment. She has over 65 refereed publications in journals such as Journal of Vocational Behavior, Academy of Management Review, Journal of Applied Psychology, Transportation Journal and Human Resource Management to name a few. She has published a scholarly book, "The Theory and Measurement of Work Commitment." Her research interests entail the link between employee attitudes and managerially relevant work behaviors such as absenteeism, turnover, and safety. Her most recent research efforts have been directed toward understanding work behavior among contract employees.

Schwab, Andreas (PhD, University of Wisconsin; Assistant Professor) studies organizational learning processes in dynamic environments, such as project ventures and interorganizational relationships. His research shows how learning activities affect project performance, future collaboration patterns, changes in organizational practices, and the variability of learning outcomes. He has published in such journals as the Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, Strategic Organization, Research Methodology in Strategy and Management, Industrial and Corporate Change, Family Business Review, and Industrial Relations.

Shrader, Charles (PhD, Indiana University; Professor) is involved in a research program that focuses on the relationships of strategic management variables with organizational performance measures. His research appears in such publications as Journal of Management, Human Relations, Entrepreneurship: Theory & Practice, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Business Research, and the Journal of Small Business Management. Dr. Shrader also has written numerous case studies and teaching materials that have been published in leading Strategic Management textbooks.

Van Auken, Howard (PhD, University of Oklahoma; Professor) His research interests are in the area of business start-up and new venture financing. He has published over 75 refereed papers in professional journals, including Entrepreneurship: Theory and Practice, Entrepreneurship and Regional Development, Journal of Small Business Management, Journal of Entrepreneurial and Small Business Finance, Journal of Entrepreneurship and Small Business, Journal of Entrepreneurship, and Journal of Portfolio Management.

Werbel, James (PhD, Northwestern University; Professor) works in three primary areas—employee selection, work and family issues and business ethics. Dr. Werbel has published in such journals as Corporate Reputation Review, Journal of Vocational Behavior, Administrative Science Quarterly, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management, and Personnel Psychology.

White, Robert (PhD, Arizona State University; Assistant Professor) Dr. White’s research interests focus on corporate governance across a variety of settings, including entrepreneurial, international, and troubled firms. He also enjoys a secondary interest in corporate political activity. His work has appeared in the Journal of Management, Management and Organization Review, and Advances in International Management.

Zhang, Jing (PhD, National University of Singapore; Assistant Professor) works in a number of areas including technology and knowledge management, new venture creation and growth, and social networking in organizations. Her work has appeared in journals such as Journal of Management and Entrepreneurship: Theory and Practice.
