Business Analytics

The Graduate Certificate in Business Analytics from Iowa State University equips business professionals with the basic analytic concepts and techniques necessary in various areas of business such as marketing, supply chain, operations, forensics, and risk management. This will allow business analysts, analytic systems designers, and data scientists to help improve business performance.

The program will address the challenges of dealing with issues of “big data” and its analysis to extract actionable insights. Students will have a foundation in data management, business analytics, modeling (descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive), and communicating through data visualization.


The Business Analytics Graduate Certificate may be completed online, in Des Moines or on campus in Ames.


The Business Analytics Graduate Certificate consists of a minimum of 12 approved graduate credits. Students must maintain a grade average of 3.0 or higher. This graduate certificate may be earned either before, after, or concurrently with a master’s or doctoral degree. At least 3 credits may not be used to satisfy any other degree requirements.


Admission to the Business Analytics Graduate Certificate program is contingent upon satisfying the following requirements:

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Business, STEM or related field
  • A cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 in the last 60 semester/90 quarter units of study
  • Completed a college-level statistics course with a minimum grade of 3.00 at an accredited college or university within the last five years
  • Post-undergraduate work experience of two or more years

Students seeking a Graduate Certificate must meet minimum program criteria for admission. The program requirements and application can be found at  International applicants are also required to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores. GRE or GMAT scores are recommended, but not required. 


Students already enrolled in a graduate degree program at Iowa State need to submit a Request to Pursue a Certificate in Addition to a Graduate Degree, a current resume, and a goals/interest statement.   


Non-degree seeking students may transfer up to 9 credits toward a graduate degree or certificate program at ISU prior to admission into the program.
