Lunch with Labh

Please mark your calendars for the next “Lunch with Labh” on Thursday, November 17, 2011 from 12:00-1:00 in the Schaller Seminar Room, 3164 Gerdin Business Building. This is your opportunity to hear about the state of the college and ask questions of the dean. This is a brown-bag lunch – beverages will be provided. November College Research Colloquium

Jing Dai and Sekar Raju are the scheduled presenters for the November 30 College Research Colloquium. The presentations will be held from 11:30 -12:30 p.m. in room 3164 Gerdin Business Building. Accounting

Jan Duffy presented "Revenue Recognition - What's Coming with IFRS" to the American Society of Women Accountants - Ames and Des Moines chapters on October 19.

 

The Accounting Department and WebFilings jointly sponsored a presentation by Robert Herz, former chair of the Financial Accounting Standards Board, titled ‘Challenges and Opportunities Facing Financial Reporting in the U.S. and Globally’ on October 18. Over 200 students, faculty, and community members attended.

 

Business Career Services

Young Professionals Leadership Symposium
Meredith Williams is attending the Young Professionals of Ames Leadership Symposium on November 4 in Ames.

 

The Way Up Conference
Tammy Stegman will be attending The Way Up: Developing Women Leaders to Enhance Iowa Higher Education on November 3 and 4 in Des Moines, IA.

 

Recruiting Trends Conference:
Kathy Wieland and Tammy Stegman will attend the Recruiting Trends Conference in Chicago, IL on November 17-18. This conference is hosted by the Midwest Association for Colleges and Employers. Dr. Phil Gardner, Principal Investigator with the Collegiate Employment Research Institute at Michigan State University will share information from the 2011-2012 Recruiting Trends survey report. Kathy and Tammy will also be attending employer site visits on Thursday.

 

Mark Your Calendars NOW – Career Fair and Career Week:
Important dates for the spring 2012 semester! The Business/Liberal Arts & Human Sciences Career Fair will be held on Wednesday – February 8, 2012 from 12-6 p.m. at Hilton Coliseum. Mock Interview Day will kick off Career Week which will be February 1-8. Stay tuned for specific details regarding all these events.

Biju Kulathakal is an entrepreneur and founder and chairman of Trading Block Holdings Inc, a financial services holding company based in Chicago. Previously, Biju was a founding partner at GetAMovie which was later sold to McDonalds and subsequently became part of Redbox. Redbox is currently one of the largest movie rental companies in the United States and the fastest growing in terms of revenue. He was also a founder of Enterprise Logic Systems, a software development firm that specialized in developing technology solutions for the financial services and trading industry.

Greater Iowa Credit Union Business Lecture
Maxine Sweet, Vice President of Public Education for Experian, will be the speaker at the second Greater Iowa Credit Union Business Lecture on Tuesday, November 1 at 8:00 p.m. in the Sun Room of the Memorial Union. More details can be found here.

Conference Paper Acceptances:

Hu, Q., Yang, J. Z., and Yang, L. F. “The Impact of E-Commerce on Organizational Performance: The Role of Absorptive Capacity and Integrative Capabilities,” accepted for presentation at the Tenth Workshop on E-Business (WEB 2011), to be held on December 4, 2011, Shanghai, China.

 

Helmer, G. “Data Breaches and Web Servers: The Giant Sucking Sound,” accepted for presentation at the RSA Conference 2012, to be held on February 27- March 2, 2012 in San Francisco, California. 

 

Professional Achievements:

Joey George has accepted an invitation to serve as a Senior Editor of Information Systems Research for at least one more year by the new Editor-in-Chief Ritu Agarwal.

Undergraduate Programs

REMINDER:  A student wanting to add a business course for the spring 2012 semester, which is not available on Access Plus, should be referred to Sarah Wilson in 1200 Gerdin.

 

If you are faculty member who would like to participate on stage for the December 16 College of Business graduation ceremony and have not touched base with Sarah Wilson, please contact her via email at slwilson@iastate.edu.

 

Undergraduate programs staff will be meeting with transfer students during Transfer Orientation on November 14.

 

Experience Iowa State sessions will be November 4 and 11. Transfer Student Visit Day will be November 7 and Legacy Migration will be November 28 here in the Gerdin Business Building

 

The Business Ambassadors will be visiting with 9-12 and postsecondary students from their high school and community college alum to discuss why they chose Iowa State’s College of Business program. The students will be completing their first visit over the Thanksgiving break. Students maintain communication with their business teachers regarding information about the College of Business, and will visit in the spring semester as well. For more information, please contact Leah Berte in 1200 Gerdin.
