Professional Activities

Dr. Montabon's primary research activities have been in the area of environmentally responsible manufacturing and ISO 14000. He has also done research on process improvement that has included direct involvement with leading firms. Dr. Montabon's research has been published in various academic journals including International Journal of Production Research, Journal of Supply Chain Management, International Journal of Operations and Production Management, Production and Inventory Management Journal, International Journal of Production Economics, and Omega. He has also presented his research at numerous annual meetings of the Decision Sciences Institute (DSI). Dr. Montabon has achieved three certifications from APICS-The Association for Operations Management: Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM), Certified in Integrated Resources Management (CIRM) and Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP). Dr. Montabon won the 1997-1998 Richard J. Lewis Quality of Excellence Award (Graduate Student category) from The Eli Broad Graduate School of Management at Michigan State University and the 2000 Outstanding Graduate Assistant Award from the Michigan State University Supply Chain Management Association. Dr. Montabon earned the Best Environmental Paper Award at the DSI 2001 and 2002 annual meetings. He earned the Iowa State University College of Business Research Award for 2002. He is a member of DSI, Production and Operations Management Society (POMS), APICS, and the Institute for Supply Management (ISM). Before entering graduate school, Dr. Montabon was an information systems consultant, focusing on manufacturing and distribution clients. Many of Dr. Montabon's projects focused on software design, selection, development and implementation for these industries. Through the Business and Industry Relations program in the College of Business, Dr. Montabon has completed many successful consulting projects for Iowa-based firms.
