Professional Activities

Bobby Martens is an assistant professor with a joint appointment in the Department of Logistics, Operations, and Management Information Systems (College of Business) and the Institute for Food Safety and Security. His research interest is the role of logistics and supply chain management in food safety and security. Bobby earned his PhD in Agricultural Economics from Purdue University in May of 2006, studying the effects of super center warehouse stores on retail grocery supply chains. In addition to his research, Bobby taught classes and workshops at Purdue and was awarded the Purdue University Graduate Student Award for Outstanding Teaching in 2006. Prior to studying at Purdue, he worked for Schneider Logistics, a technology driven logistics and supply chain management firm in Green Bay, WI. In his position at Schneider, Bobby led supply chain engineering projects and implemented software systems for firms including Kroger Foods, General Motors, and Blue Ridge Paper Products. He has also been employed by the Case Corporation in product management of their wheel loader line. Bobby earned his M.S. and B.S. degrees, both in Agricultural Economics with emphasis in Logistics and Transportation, from North Dakota State University. Bobby and his wife Christie are excited to be part of the Iowa State University community.
