You’ll learn about the many opportunities available with an accounting degree and what an accountant ‘looks like’ including skills and characteristics that are sure to get you thinking if an accounting degree is right for you!


Sadie is a recent graduate of Iowa State University with a Masters of Accounting in May 2014. Have had experiences at Cargill, Ernst and Young, and started with Life Care Services in March.  She likes to hang out with her dog, run, and spend time with her family and friends!

Colleen Kinsey graduated from Iowa State, College of Business in 2012 with degrees in Finance and Management. She is currently an Integration Architect for Cerner Corporation in Kansas City, Missouri. Colleen travels around the country to assist clients with the implementation of healthcare technology projects within hospitals. Colleen enjoys traveling, volunteering, and gaining new experiences.

With training in accounting and /or finance you can go down many different paths with one company or with several.  I’ll discuss some of the great career options I’ve seen in accounting and finance and how the two degrees can work together to advance your career.  


For more than 10 years, Natalie Merrill has worked within the finance and accounting sectors. Natalie leads REG’s Corporate Finance and Investment Banking activities with responsibility for financings, strategy, and mergers and acquisitions. Additionally, she assists in the evaluation of business development opportunities and strategic investments, and coordinates internal financial analysis on behalf of other REG business units.  Natalie began her career at Deloitte & Touche, LLP.  She has a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Masters of Accountancy from Truman State University and an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis.

She Jessica has been with Enterprise Holdings for 11 years, starting in Enterprise Rent-A-Car’s nationally recognized Management Trainee Program. She has been promoted internally to a variety of positions within Enterprise Holdings, now leading recruitment efforts across the state of Iowa. Jess serves as a leader for the company’s local Diversity Career & Family Focus Team and Female Leadership Initiative. She has also served as the United Way Campaign Chair for 8 years.

Jess received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Western Illinois University, focusing on Tourism Management. Jess and her husband, Brandon, have one daughter, age 5. She enjoys watching her daughter in dance, crafting, and spending time with family and friends.

During her 20 plus years with Union Pacific, Kate has held a variety of positions in logistics, sales, and marketing, and operations. Her last position at UP was VP – Intermodal Operations. Her background includes AVP/GM of UPDS, a wholly owned subsidiary of UP, AVP Industrial Products Marketing, General Director – MDSC, Onboarding and Training & Quality and Senior Business Director – Chemicals.

Kate has a degree in Business Administration from Iowa State University. Kate held the position of Executive Director in UP’s women initiative (LEAD). She was recognized in the Women Worth Watching feature of the Sept. 2013 edition of Profiles in Diversity Journal. Kate also serves on the Completely Kids Guild Board. Kate and her husband, Jeff, have three children ages 15, 13 and 11. Kate enjoys reading, golfing, watching her children in soccer and volleyball, working out and spending time with family and friends.

Casey: Casey graduated from Iowa State University Casey Waleswith her Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems in May 2015. While attending Iowa State she completed three summer internships, her last one being with Boston Scientific, and started full time in their Information Systems Rotation Program after graduation. She is currently working on an integration of an application called Salesforce.com for our Neuromod business.   

Thao: Thao graduated at Iowa State Thao PhamUniversity May 2015 with a degree in Management Information Systems. She received a full time offer with Boston Scientific last summer after her very first internship with the company. This year she is currently with the eServices team working on conferencing consolidation and much much more!

Allie graduated from Iowa State University in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems and Accounting. She had internships at Zirous, Principal Financial Group, KPMG, and Ernst and Young before she started her career with KPMG in January of 2014. She is currently an IT Attestation associate with KPMG’s risk management practice where she works with client management to identify system risks and determine ways to mitigate them.

Alison spent more than a dozen years at advertising agencies and high growth technology companies primarily on the west coast before landing at ISU RP seven years ago to envision and execute ISU RP’s initial marketing effort. She is a frequent speaker on various marketing/PR topics, owns a boutique firm serving primarily B2C startups/small businesses, a yoga instructor, community volunteer and mother of two. Alison is also a proud ISU Alum.

Jennifer Estochen is currently Business Process Lead for 3M’s Business Transformation organization. In this role, Jen is leading projects to define cross-functional support processes for all business processes (supply chain, manufacturing, finance, human resources, and customer-facing) engaged in 3M’s Business Transformation and ERP deployment efforts.

Jen has been with 3M for 15 years, beginning as a work-study student in IT and Supply Chain at the Ames facility, moving through roles in IT Warehousing and eBusiness, supply chain positions in 3M’s Industrial Adhesives and Tapes Division (IATD) and Electronic Markets Materials Division (EMMD), a Lean Six Sigma assignment in EMMD and a Manufacturing Operations Supervisor in EMMD. In addition, Jen is the past chair and past secretary of the 3M Supply Chain Forum (SCF), a member of the SCF Leadership Team and Lead Recruiter for Supply Chain and Business students at Iowa State.
