Logistics Intern, Malt-O-Meal Company
Over the summer, Amanda worked as an intern in the Customer Logistics department at Malt-O-Meal. At her internship, it was Amanda’s responsibility to focus on strategic ways to save money and cut costs in order to increase profits and offset customer costs. Ultimately, Amanda learned how the slightest of savings can be a significant advantage to the company in their competitive landscape. She also learned how important it is to have an understanding of all the business functions in order to be aware of everything that is going on throughout the company and how they impact each other.
During her internship, Amanda came to love the culture and work environment within Malt-O-Meal. She immediately felt like a part of the team, although she was only an intern. "I felt like anyone from someone in a different department all the way up to the VP of the Supply Chain would be willing to help me if I had any issues or problems."
Reporting and Disclosure Intern, AEGON
Over the summer, Sahin Hoque was a Reporting and Disclosure Intern with AEGON. While there, he assisted his department team by researching and gathering audit materials for corporate and non-profit retirement/pension plans. He also managed Defined Contribution 403 (b) retirement plans, prepared 5500 tax forms, and ran 5% transaction reports.
During his internship Sahin learned how to prioritize his tasks and maintain efficient organization. He also gained knowledge in many of the aspects of the retirement and pension industry. Sahin enjoyed the overall work environment and liked how everyone was helpful and friendly. He also enjoyed the freedom to work on the tasks he wanted to gain experience with.
Business Career Services helped Sahin obtain his internship by using ISU CMS. ISU CMS connected Sahin to AEGON and gave him the complete description of the company and job responsibilities. "Other students should use Business Career Services because it offers many resources for students, such as the Career Fair, ISU CMS, and advisors."
Marketing Intern, Green Bay Packers
Last January through August, Rachel was the marketing intern for the Green Bay Packers. As an intern, it was her job to assist in coordinating and tracking all marketing operations and helping with day-to-day marketing administrative needs. It was Rachel’s responsibility to track all NFL game day ads, replay board logos, and sponsor game day spots. She conducted game day events and set up client hospitality events as well as ran other marketing events and promotions. One of Rachel’s favorite projects was executing an online contest celebrating the Green Bay Packers’ 90th birthday in order to increase customer data collection.
Overall, Rachel enjoyed interacting and building relationships with various Packer clients, coordinating promotions for Packer home games, and being given the opportunity to work for the Green Bay Packers.
Rachel took advantage of the resume and cover letter services with Business Career Services. They helped her to “perfect my resume and cover letter” which helped her in professionally applying for her internship.
Supply Management Intern, John Deere
Over the summer, Ryan worked as a supply management intern for John Deere in the Materials Logistics department where he had the opportunity to optimize the replenishment method for two high-dollar parts and install a visual replenishment system for a group of parts. He also worked with the Supply Management Product Development group where he monitored the status of new parts for five experimental machines. In addition to his major projects, he was also able to work with every department to get a broader understanding of how departments must communicate effectively and work together to produce a cost-effective product.
Ryan enjoyed the variety of projects he was given and the fact that they trusted him with major jobs and responsibilities. He also liked seeing the impact that his work had on the company and the factories as well as having the opportunity to meet with senior level management.
Business Career Services provided Ryan with the opportunity to talk to major companies. Ryan says that the most beneficial aspect of Business Career Services is "their willingness to review your resume and give advice on how to make yourself look the best you can."
Marketing Intern, Coca-Cola Company
During the past summer, Arushi Lohiya worked at Coca-Cola on the Limca drink division, a lemony drink produced by Coca-Cola. She worked under the Limca Brand Manager and the Director of Still Beverages in India. At her internship, Arushi helped to chart the strategic roadmap for the Limca Brand. This roadmap specified the company’s plans to transform Limca from its current position in the market into an iconic brand. She also assisted the Brand manager in working with Ogilvy Advertising Agency in the execution of television and radio commercials. Another major project she worked on was to develop a marketing strategy for the Limca Book of World Records (comparable to the Guiness Book of World Records).
Arushi enjoyed the work culture the most at her job. "There was a good balance of work and pleasure. They valued individuality and encouraged out-of-the-box thinking." Looking back at her internship, Arushi says that she has gained a lot of insight into revamping a brand using advertising and promotions to change the brand’s position in the consumer’s mind.
Financial Analyst Intern, Wells Fargo Financial
During the summer, Harkinder worked as a Financial Analyst Intern at Wells Fargo Financial where he evaluated customers’ financial situations and made negotiations for repayment. While he was there, he performed skip-tracing duties to find delinquent accounts and learned how to utilize an auto-dial system to initiate customer contact and determine reasons for their delinquency. Harkinder also was responsible for resolving problems by selecting the most appropriate resources available and recommending solutions.
Harkinder enjoyed Wells Fargo’s professional, fun and competitive environment. He also appreciated the development opportunities Wells Fargo offered, which has empowered him to achieve personal financial success.

Events Coordinator Intern, Eleganz-Shanghai
During the summer, Cathy Du was an events coordinator at the multi-national public relations firm, Eleganz. While she was there, she assisted with organizing two fall fashion shows, one for Elle Magazine, and one for LaCoste Clothing Company. She did model casting, assisted in backstage activities during the shows, and managed the firm’s relationships with the modeling agencies. In addition, she translated modeling contracts and negotiations with suppliers from Chinese into English.
At her internship, Cathy enjoyed the opportunity to work with a diverse staff composed of French and Chinese workers and interact among their distinct business cultures. She also appreciated the responsibility and trust that was given to her to assist in the organization of a major fashion show.
Cathy appreciated the assistance she received from her Career Services Counselor. Polishing her resume and cover letter as well as giving career advice was helpful to Cathy obtain her internship.
Over the summer, Tim was an intern with FCStone, a commodities risk management firm. While he was there, Tim research European commodity exchanges and hedging tools for opportunities and barriers to transatlantic expansion. He assisted the management team in establishing European headquarters in Dublin, Ireland as well as created a database of over 150 European prospect involved in biodiesel production.
During his internship, Tim enjoyed the company atmosphere of commitment to success and excellence. He also liked learning about a new industry that he had little exposure to and working with top-level managers.
MIS Intern, Boston Scientific
Over the summer, Erica was a MIS Intern for Boston Scientific within the Clinicals Division. While she was there, she was involved with two Tier One Global Projects, where she was responsible for creating and sustaining a production support plan for each system. Erica researched other Information Systems Departments to gain perspective on their procedures in order to propose ideas for the production support plan. She also created the user guides for applications involved in both systems and assisted with training users. During her internship, Erica learned the importance of communication and teamwork, and how it plays a critical role in IT-Business relationships.
After her summer there, Erica enjoyed the level of responsibility that was both given to her and expected out of her. She appreciated that fact that she was able to work on multi-million dollar projects, and that her work and ideas were highly valued.
Business Career Services assisted Erica in landing her internship. Erica received assistance with her resume, interview, and going over her job offer. They "gave me great advice and offered encouragement to keep working towards my goals." Besides all of the help in job searching, mock interview help, and organization, one of the most important things Business Career Services offers is a perspective on your future career.
Advisory Technology Intern, PricewaterhouseCoopers
During the summer, Lara worked on the Information and Records Management, Payment Card Industry Requirements, e-discovery, and was a part of different teams within PricewaterhouseCoopers. In order to work across all teams, Lara attended client meetings to discover where clients experienced difficulty with systems and processes and what they were doing successfully. She also had to learn several new programs, including Microsoft Access and SharePoint, and create deliverables for clients to help improve their efficiencies. A final experience Lara had over the summer was performing “attack and penetration testing on several companies to determine the potential for unauthorized personnel to enter their private systems.”
Her internship with PricewaterhouseCoopers was a great experience for Lara and she learned a lot during her internship. Overall, she enjoyed working with numerous individuals across the firm on many different projects within the Minneapolis market. Through the networks that she created by interacting with different people, she was able to control her career path. By doing this, she was also able to communicate with fellow employees and participate in projects she was interested in.
Lara used Business Career Services to help her in her internship search. “Business Career Services can always help with something, whether it is a mock interview, discussing how to dress for the Career Fair and interviews, or how to negotiate a job offer.” She attended many workshops, had her resume reviewed, and discussed internship opportunities with her advisor. Lara also felt that the Career Fair was a great place to discover internship opportunities.
