AMES, Iowa – America’s SBDC Iowa is pleased to announce that Mary and Tim Hamer, owners, Loess Hills Lavender Farm, Missouri Valley, are the winners of the SBDC’s Business of the Month Award.

The award will be presented to Mary and Tim on September 28th at Loess Hills Lavender Farms in Missouri Valley by SBDC Regional Director Sue Pitts, who nominated them for the award. The short presentation will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Sue Pitts, regional director of the Iowa Western SBDC, Council Bluffs says, “Loess Hills Lavender Farm is the only lavender farm in the state of Iowa and Tim and Mary have worked hard at not only producing lavender but also creating a state tourism attraction. They manage to put an incredible amount of work and passion into, and continue to grow, a business that makes a real economic impact in Iowa. I truly feel honored to have helped them on their journey.”

At Loess Hills Lavender Farm, Mary and Tim Hamer grow lavender, hold tours, produce lavender products, and run a gift shop on the farm that displays the work of over forty local artisans. On display with their lavender products are photos, paintings, barbed wire sculptures, jewelry, woodwork, linens, and other wonderful seasonal crafts. Mary and Tim have recently added new landscape features to the farm, including a lavender showcase area and a pergola, and they continue to improve their property, with future plans to host large events like weddings.
