When diversity is discussed across campus, the topic often seems to focus on diversity with respect to faculty, staff, and students of color. Yet, diversity can and should be more representative than color—diversity with respect to disability, nationality, race and ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, sex (gender), and age are all central to a rich understanding of diversity.

Multicultural Business Network

The purpose of the Multicultural Business Network is to provide a networking system among minority students in the business program. One of our goals is to share experiences, ideas, and concerns that will encourage you to pursue your educational and career goals.  Members of the ISU academic community serve as mentors to students in the group. The organization offers resources to members through socials, business professional speakers, and ISU academic speakers.

The Multicultural Liaison Officer (MLO) is an important resource to help students navigate their stay at Iowa State University (ISU). Dr. Brenda Thorbs-Weber serves as the College of Business MLO providing support to students who are African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanic/Latinos, and Native Americans.

ISU defines diversity as that quality of its physical, social, cultural and intellectual environment which embraces the rich differences within the multiplicity of human expression and characteristics including:

Age, Culture, Ethnicity, Gender Identification and Presentation, Language and Linguistic Ability, Physical Ability and Quality, Race, Religion, Sexual Orientation, and Socioeconomic Status. First, it's important to note that increasing our diversity is not a new goal, and it's not one person's priority. It is a priority established by the Board of Regents, the State of Iowa, and one on which we are measured each year. It's a priority of the university, prominent throughout our Strategic Plan.
